Way back on October 13, 2007 our club set out to do an
exploration of the trails on the west side of Big Bear Lake. On the day of
the event, at our meeting place in Redlands, the weather over the high
country looked ominous. As an alternative, we had a great time out in
the eastern desert, touring "The Mines of Joshua Tree."
I have not forgotten our desire to adventure in those tall pines,
perhaps on a summer's day.
On July 25, our journey will take us through
those conifers.
This will be one of the more challenging
runs on some of the nastier trails in the area. It's one
that many of you have been waiting for. And it is a great
time of the year for an adventure, high in the San
Bernardino Mountains near Big Bear. The terrain may include
soft sand, gravel, steep grades, some possible rock crawling
stretches, plenty of fresh air and glorious tall pines. With
no plan to prerun the trails this time, this could prove to
be one of the most adventurous outings yet!
The trails in this area are narrow and usually somewhat
overgrown. So bring your shortest, highest four wheel drive
vehicle - nothing larger than a mini-pickup! This is a
one-day event.
You must pre-register to join us for this event, so see me
appearing in the Pavilion (no booth this time) for details
and to sign up. A National Forest Adventure Pass is also
required.
* Only STREET-LEGAL
4 WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLES are permitted at this event.
Please read the
Frequently Asked
Questions page of this
website for VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS and rules governing this event.

BY THE PAVILION TO SIGN UP
I will be in the Pavilion

12 & 19. You must register to participate in this event.

This
adventure is offered without charge. However, a National
Forest “Adventure Pass” is required. It’s kind of like a
parking permit for the forest. If you don’t already have
one, these are available at REI and at Big Five Sporting
Goods, These passes are $5/day or $30/year. (You’ll only
need a 1-day pass, because the campout is outside the
forest.) Please get one before the
day of the event, and have it with you.

To ensure that our outings are safe and comply with all
local, state and federal regulations of the areas we use, the following
guidelines apply:
ONLY
STREET-LEGAL 4 WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLES ARE PERMITTED
ALL VEHICLES
MUST BE OPERATED AT ALL TIMES BY A RESPONSIBLE LICENSED DRIVER
We regret that no other types of vehicles can be allowed
on the outings. If you own dirt bikes, quads, dune buggies, or just like
to thrash your 2 wheel drive, then Praying In The Dirt,
another of our Extremeside Ministries at Eastside, is the place for you.
Please check the Family Life Ministries page in the Eastside.com website
for info about their upcoming events.

As
always, in case someone gets stuck, I'll have my winch and
trusty strap. In this video, I'm helping a 2 wheel drive
that got bogged down in the sand in Anza Borrego.
