The Onyx Adventure

End your summer with an awesome adventure at the Onyx Excursion. This will be a journey from a peak near Big Bear Lake down to the high desert near Landers and Yucca Valley. Our drive will take us through one of the most beautiful parts of the San Bernardino National Forest.

This outing offers a great introduction to the joys of 4x4 driving, but also some exciting challenges for more experienced drivers. On our way from the mountains to the desert we will encounter some steep rocky grades, some soft sandy washes, and a fun run through the narrow Rattlesnake Canyon.

The route can be navigated by most stock 4 wheel drive vehicles, so even if you never have been off-roading, please plan to join us.

This outing offers a bonus: an optional PRIMITIVE CAMPOUT in the canyon after the run.

* Only STREET-LEGAL 4 WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLES are permitted at this event.

STOP BY THE PAVILION TO SIGN UP

This adventure is offered without charge. However, a National Forest “Adventure Pass” is required. It’s kind of like a parking permit for the forest. If you don’t already have one, these are available at REI and at Big Five Sporting Goods, These passes are $5/day or $30/year. (You’ll only need a 1-day pass, because the campout is outside the forest.) Please get one before the day of the event, and have it with you.
